Hi, my name is Jennifer and I am the Positive Tails Dog Training founder. I first became interested in dog training after hiring a professional dog trainer to help me with training my puppy. That’s right; I was once just like you. I needed to hire a dog trainer. My little puppy had some pretty typical (and crazy-making) puppy issues; mouthing and biting, not coming when called, no understanding of how to walk on a leash, potty training issues, and more. Her behaviors were common puppy problems but, when it came to teaching her the right things to do, I was hopeless. I knew that having a dog was supposed to be fun but my puppy’s behaviors were already taking all of the fun out of it. She was only 12 weeks old and I was already feeling aggravated, stressed out, and confused. What I was experiencing was pure frustration. I wanted to bring the fun back and gain some control over the situation. I knew that if I didn’t do something soon, things were only going to get worse.
So, I met with some local trainers, found one that seemed like a perfect fit for us, and got started with training right away. It was such a pleasure to finally be able to effectively communicate with my dog and improve the quality of my relationship with her. Training my little dog not only helped me gain control and communicate with her, but it also brought back the fun of having a dog.
Through training, I have been able to develop an exceptional relationship with my dogs. I can take them anywhere with me. They have the freedom to enjoy the world and I have the control that I need to keep them safe. A rewarding and enriching relationship with a dog is something that everyone should be able to experience. After training my puppy, it was easy to see this was an experience that I wanted to bring to others. I wanted to be part of improving the quality of life for dogs and their owners. After 10 years of being a public school teacher, I followed the joy in my life and made a big decision. I took the leap and left teaching to follow my passion for helping others to improve their quality of life with their dogs. Today, I’m helping others to gain control, help their dogs reach their full potential, and most importantly…bring back the fun.
